Southeast Community College Health Sciences Building
New Construction | Lincoln, Nebraska | 81,000 SF
The new Health Sciences Building at Southeast Community College establishes a new standard for hands-on healthcare education in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a dynamic learning environment, the 81,000-square-foot facility includes advanced health science laboratories, adaptable classrooms, faculty offices, and collaborative student spaces, all organized around an open atrium that maximizes natural light. Realistic outdoor training environments further enhance experiential learning and prepare students for clinical practice.
To support the advanced programming within the facility, Tune Facilities provided comprehensive commissioning and building optimization services. The mechanical infrastructure, which includes geothermal and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) HVAC systems, required careful coordination, thorough testing, and precise performance verification to ensure reliability, efficiency, and long-term operability.
The commissioning scope included heating systems, air handling and cooling systems, HVAC controls, plumbing water systems, and lighting fixtures and controls. The team also observed the startup and commissioning of emergency and backup systems to confirm integration and operational readiness.
Detailed validation and performance testing ensured that all systems operate as designed, resulting in a high-performance, energy-efficient environment that meets the technical requirements of health sciences education and supports the comfort of students and faculty.
